So What Exactly is Contemporary Furniture?

Often it can be difficult to tell just by looking at a piece of furniture what category of style it falls into - at least for the average citizen who hasn’t had the training to categorise furniture pieces. Much like a functional and ubiquitous art form, furniture can be divided into many different styles of design according to both aesthetic and utilitarian factors as well as the age of the piece. Contemporary furniture is just one part of a design history that has mirrored the progress of mankind since the first homes and cities were built.

There are two basic ways to classify contemporary furniture amongst the myriad of other styles and designs available to you: the contemporary label encompasses either all furniture created since the Second World War or any modern designs. These two differentiations from other furniture styles make it clear that contemporary pieces are still being created within the minds of designers and in the hands of craftsmen. This is the most recent wave of design in a long line of stylistic changes and although many changes have been made alongside much experimentation since the Second World War, it still remains clear that furniture with a more modern appearance is essentially what this category holds, although there are more classical-looking pieces that are grouped together with these.

Perhaps the best way to grasp the meaning and design of contemporary furniture is to watch movies made in the 1960’s and 1970’s. Films like Dr. Stangelove and 2001: A Space Odyssey are full of supposedly futuristic, modern furniture that really was not so much futuristic but actually inherent particularly to those particular decades and were a precursor to modern contemporary furniture being built now. There are also featured appearances in the hit movies Men In Black (the infamous Pod chair) and most recently the new bond film - Quantum of Solace. This film features items from the leading manufacturer B&B Italia, and I think we can all agree they look stunning on a large screen.

While it might seem strange that this kind of furniture is classified in the same group as rather traditional-looking dining chairs and ‘normal’ coffee tables, one must remember that it is the actual design of these furniture pieces that has been created in the post-war era. Although some classic furniture designs from before WWII have easily survived the decades and still grace our homes, this does not mean that the design is modern - it is simply enduring. Contemporary furniture is relatively modern in terms of furniture history, and it is often identifiable from its smooth lines, simplistic approach and the use of newer materials, often different types of plastic.

Contemporary furniture, from a design perspective, is about taking furniture to a new level of comfort, simplicity and aesthetic beauty. During this time of financial difficulty, it’s particularly important to remember to keep your eyes open for discounts, voucher codes and special offers to help keep your costs down. Many furniture sites are seeing the instability and reflecting their prices for the ever impending recession so why not treat yourself to some of the sale items and get a bargin.

What material would you pick: glass, wood, ecological or metal?

When choosing coffee tables it is important that you have all the dimensions of the room clear; sometimes even the rest of the items of furniture are important for the matter. For instance, coffee tables are usually placed near sofas and armchairs. If you don’t buy such elements together, you’ll have to consider the way they match in the eventuality of a combination. Not just the material is important but color has a great word to say too; beware too daring colors! They may look innovative and modern, but how well do such coffee tables match with the rest of the objects in the room?

Placing coffee tables directly on the floor or on the carpet may be another element to consider. Transparent glass tables usually work great with wood polished floors as they leave an amazing impression of spatiality. Moreover, when using some kind of decorative items on such coffee tables the aesthetic effect will be double; all these contribute to an overall feeling of coziness and warmth that should characterize any home after all. There are plenty of companies that design unique coffee tables according to the client’s requirements; the scores vary from medium to very high, considering the types of materials used in the production as well as the complexity of the design. Any such service supplier will first create a computer simulation or plan of the coffee tables described by the customer, and only the moment you give the green light that everything is according to your expectations, will the actual manufacturing process begin.

Coffee Tables, End Tables, and Sofa Tables for Your Living Room

Date: 03 December, 2008  |  Posted By: admin  |  Category: Uncategorized  |  Comments: 2

Decorating your living room can be an exciting and fun task. From lighting and wall colors to furniture and fabrics, there are many components to properly decorating your living room area. One important aspect of this is picking out tables that match the style of your home.

Coffee tables, though perhaps the most important of living room tables, are just one type of what we call “occasional table.” Occasional tables are just that - tables for specific occasion. In the case of coffee tables, we find a wide array of occasions. Coffee tables are the central table that people sit around in a living room. Usually it complements the sofa in both length and height, and it becomes both a decorative and functional table.

Coffee tables are used to display items in the household, and depending on the household, they’re usually used for gathering. The extent to which the coffee table is functionally used really varies from household to household. Typically coffee tables are the most functionally used table in the living room.

End tables, also called side tables are usually placed at the end of the sofa or next to a chair. End tables usually hold a table lamp and some decorative items. Similarly, sofa tables are also highly decorative; these high standing tables are usually placed behind the sofa or against a wall and serve to hold decorative items. Unlike coffee tables, end tables and sofa tables are used primarily as decorative pieces in a room.

Depending on the style and theme of your living room, it’s possible to mix and match pieces of living room furniture, including tables. Your end tables do not need to be from the same collection as your coffee table and sofa tables. The only thing that matters is that your tables are thematically consistent. You want your furniture to work well together. If you have a thematically rustic furnished room, for example, you want all of your furniture to follow suit. Beyond theme, however, your individual pieces can come from a variety of collections.

Some coffee tables come in a complete set with matching end tables and sofa tables. This might be an option for some people who prefer consistency, or who have little time to devote to redecorating. You might also consider whether you need each time of table in your space.

Although coffee tables are standard in every living room, not every room has space or need for a sofa table. You need to think of the room, and your needs in terms of space, decoration, and function; whatever your decorating desires, you will find occasional tables that work for you.

Glass Coffee Tables Online-why Not!!

Date: 02 December, 2008  |  Posted By: admin  |  Category: Uncategorized  |  Comments: 753

One of the biggest and most exciting adventures is moving out on your own but it is a time when the number of choices and decisions may seem overwhelming. Now, this “moving out on your own” does not include heading off to college to live in some dingy, cramped dorm room. Your first place is that home or apartment that follows school and is therefore the true cornerstone of your adult existence. Buying the right furniture for you décor is one of those decisions that must be made that will make a bold statement as to your character. A stunning glass coffee table may not be the first piece of furniture in your new home or even the most urgent interior decorating need—but, it is vital to the living room and will certainly make a bold statement about your level of sophistication and taste.

In all honesty, a premium glass coffee table is a furnishing you either buy later in life or at the beginning of your journey into adulthood. Once (or if) children enter into the picture, there are certain safety concerns that must be considered. Plus, despite the fact that we all love our children, the potential for damage to the top of the table is very high which is why many people store away their glass coffee tables once children enter into the picture. However, once the children have grown or at least reached ages where they can be careful around valuable furniture, you may wish to bring the premium glass coffee table back out of storage so it may be displayed properly.

However, in between the time when children enter into the picture and that seemingly brief window of care-free adulthood, there is the possibility to prominently display your premium glass coffee table with the other fine furniture in your new home or apartment. The truly great fact about these types of tables is that they can truly be at home in any interior design scheme, be it modern or traditional.

In more rustic or naturalistic settings, glass coffee tables would most likely feature a base made from a fine hardwood such as oak, cherry, or even mahogany. The traditional glass coffee table may feature inlayed glass partitions set into the wooden base. On more contemporary glass coffee tables, the base will tend to be metallic and generally coated in nickel, brass, or perhaps be solid wrought iron. So long as you take the time to understand and design a comprehensive interior design scheme for you décor, you will have no problem complementing your other furnishings and giving the entire space a more unified and “sophisticated” look—befitting of your new status as a fully independent adult.

How a Glass Coffee Table Can be Used to Accentuate Any Room

Date: 01 December, 2008  |  Posted By: admin  |  Category: Uncategorized  |  Comments: 965

You struggle to go wrong when you choose a glass coffee table to accent a space in your home. However, if you have an idea of how the rest of the space will be designed this simple decorating task is made much easier.

For instance, you will want to know if you are going to add wallpaper, or what color the walls will be painted. You will also want to decide whether the room will have carpeting or traditional hardwood flooring.

If you choose to install carpet, you will need to decide what color it will be before you decide on the style and placement of a glass coffee table in the room. The same is true if you choose to put in hardwood flooring. You will need to decide what type of stain will be used and whether it will be treated or have a more natural look and feel.

If you already have hardwood floors in your home, you may also need to decide whether or not you want to accent the floor with an area rug. Unbelievably, this will make a difference when choosing the right glass coffee table.

Your design plans do not stop here. The style, color and material of your curtains also make a difference. Whether or not you add other furnishings such as a wood credenza, china cabinet, or armchair will also help determine your final selection of a glass coffee table.

The type of accessories you place in a room matters as well. For best results, it is recommended that each flower vase, lampshade, ornament, or other piece of small d?r should be chosen with great care.

If you need assistance with designing or choosing a decorating theme you can find numerous resources to help you. Usually the best way to make sure you choose the perfect combinations of furnishings and accessories for your home is by observation.

You can view photos in home improvement publications, or you can make a mental note of how other people decorate their homes. You can also learn new design tips by reading articles, watching videos and browsing the internet.

Creating a blueprint (or at least a rough drawing) of where everything in that room will be placed may also help. Taking notes while drawing up an interior plan will be beneficial in helping you remember specific details as you work on a particular decorating theme.

During your observation and study of home decorating themes, pay particular attention to how and where professionals would place a glass coffee table. For instance, decorators usually place larger in the center of the room. On the contrary, designers usually place smaller ones as a lamp stand in a corner next to a chair or couch.

In case you are wondering, when decorating there is not necessarily a right or wrong way to decorate a home; this information is to help guide you through the process. In the end, it is you who should be pleased and happy with how the room looks.

However, the most attractive interior designs are those that homeowners or apartment renters plan ahead of time. If you carefully plan your interior decorating theme are you are likely to receive quite a few compliments from visitors.

Who knows, maybe after some practice you might even win a prize or two in a home interior decorating contest. Adding the perfect glass coffee table just might do the trick.

Guide to Glass Coffee Table

Date: 26 November, 2008  |  Posted By: admin  |  Category: Uncategorized  |  Comments: 872

A glass coffee table can have a lot of power because it is the centerpiece of your living space and can be the center of discussion. You can place books on your glass coffee table and use it as a focal point for a lot of the social interaction that goes on in your home. Most people with coffee tables know that it is not just a glass coffee table that makes the difference in a home but it is the interaction that it can foster by being a gathering place for people to be around as they converse. A coffee table of any material is wonderful, but a glass table adds a special dynamic of class to the home.

The reason glass adds the dynamic of class is that it maintains an allure through the clarity of the table and does not distract from other elements of the room. It can remain a centerpiece and a focal point without overpowering anything, including the objects you put on the table. Without a glass coffee table, you could risk having a table that overpowers and becomes an object instead of a place for objects. The distinction lies in the fact that people will notice the table first and the objects on the table second, including the conversation that surrounds it.

Designer Tips

There are great ways to decorate your room with a glass coffee table and a little bit of creativity. You may want to start with some sort of table addition such as a candle or an object to place on the table to draw a bit of attention to it. As mentioned before, however, you do not want it to completely overpower the room so the addition should be quite minute. Think about possibly adding some books or some other items to it and making sure that you maintain a specific trend in the room with the colours and other décor options. You don’t want to overdo anything if you can help it.

Finally, be sure to include the proper accessories around the table. A good idea is to put the coffee table on another small throw rug instead of directly on the rug itself. This will bring the table up a small bit and will draw it in to blend with the rest of the room. Using this technique on other end tables is good as well as it can present your room to have a very layered look. The glass coffee table is great to place in the middle of such an arrangement to gather focus to the center of the room.
